NFL Recap: Denver Narrowly Beat Struggling Jets in Defensive Affair
In a low-scoring contest this weekend, the Denver Broncos clinched a close win over the winless New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter touchdown pass and specialist Wil Lutz provided the game-winning go-ahead field goal to secure the ugly win.
Dominant Display Seals Game
Even with recording nine sacks versus Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 following giving up a two-point play in the second half. Interestingly, the Jets managed a mere 82 offensive yards throughout the entire game.
Nix, who went 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, engineered a decisive 12-play, 65-yard drive that ended with Lutz's 27-yard field goal with just over five minutes remaining.
Record Struggles for Jets Offense
In spite of their horrendous performance, the Jets still had the ball with a opportunity to drive for a possible winning score. However Fields was tackled on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 when coach Aaron Glenn opted to attempt the conversion rather than sending out specialist Nick Folk for a long field-goal attempt.
The Jets quarterback struggled throughout, completing just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. The Jets ended up with minus-10 net yards passing, the lowest in any game since 1998.
"Our passing game was non-existent," Glenn stated after the contest.
